While Mansion Murphy's mansion is extraordinarily expensive, the Diocese of Rockville Centre spent untold amounts on secret payments to victims of sexual abuse by priests of the diocese. The settlements were arranged by Msgr. Alan Placa to victims and to enormous costs of sending priests off to rehabilitation centers. The figure is millions of dollars so far. Just about all of this came out of the collection basket, the money of people who get up in the morning to earn it. Placa has been relieved of duties as a priest.
