...But of these sophisms and elenchs of merchandise I skill not...
Milton, Areopagitica

Except he had found the
standing sea-rock that even this last
Temptation breaks on; quieter than death but lovelier; peace
that quiets the desire even of praising it.

If you ever try to interfere with me
or cross my path again,
you do so at the peril of your life
I'm not quite as cool, or forgiving as I sound
I've seen enough heartache and strife

from Floater(Too Much To Ask) on Love and Theft
Bob Dylan's latest masterpiece

{Man I heard that and there was only thing I want to know, who's he talkin to? It comes out of nowhere like most of his stuff, you don't get to say for sure what or when let alone who. like everybody was saying off Blood and The Tracks, it was all about Joan Baez and all their romance and all. yeah. ok.
one of the most emotionally arresting couplets on that album, which is itself an emotional Ragnarok of the first order, is "you'll never know the hurt I suffered, or the pain I rise above, and I'll never know the same about you, your holiness, or your kind of love, and it makes me feel, so sorry." that there is nowhere out of his past with Baez. maybe it's craft, songwriting and poetic license maybe. still, I can't hear that "cross my path again" without cringing. but then if it's me he's singing to you know, hey man. the heat you brought with you when I was way too young to even run from it....but then there are no debts anymore, are there, between anyone left here alive}
