...But of these sophisms and elenchs of merchandise I skill not...
Milton, Areopagitica

Except he had found the
standing sea-rock that even this last
Temptation breaks on; quieter than death but lovelier; peace
that quiets the desire even of praising it.

So it goes in the pro-evolution comic book world dreamed up by Jay Hosler, a biology professor at Juniata College in Huntingdon, Pa., as a way of combating the creeping influence of creationism.

{as though it's all just this kind of intellectual mistake, as though there's a big green field with lines marked out, and they're over there, we're over here, and there's rules and we play and then somebody wins eventually...but wait.
those guys are fighting for their lives.
flat out that simple. they will fight more desperately the closer it gets, the clearer it gets how empty their postions are. it has nothing to do with the truth. nothing to do with reason. nothing to do with anything more complex than surviving. that's there in the science guys' book isn't it? camoflage? the monarch-mimicking butterfly? looks poisonous. isn't but looks it. so it doesn't get eaten. that's a lie right? not true? but it works. and that's what it's really all about. what works. delusional belief systems work. fight that, fight it all you want. but don't get all whiny when the closer you get to rational victory the harder they fight. they're fighting for their lives. you aren't. not yet anyway.}
