...But of these sophisms and elenchs of merchandise I skill not...
Milton, Areopagitica

Except he had found the

Temptation breaks on; quieter than death but lovelier; peace
that quiets the desire even of praising it.

Forum: etree Subject: How to log in to an FTP server without installing an FTP client
For those of you that shy away from FTP clients, another way of logging in to an FTP server is by using the following format in the address bar of a web browser.

ftp://anonymous@etree03.archive.org

Where:
ftp is the protocol
anonymous is the username
and etree03.archive.org is the name of the server.

After connecting, you'll get a prompt for a password. From there, all you have to do is copy and paste the files you want.

For the DOS users, here's a paste of how to connect. I've put my commands in bold.

C:\WINNT\system32>ftp
ftp> open etree02.archive.org
Connected to etree02.archive.org.
220 etree02.archive.org FTP server (Version wu-2.6.1-18) ready.
User (etree02.archive.org:(none)): anonymous
331 Guest login ok, send your complete e-mail address as password.
Password: (hidden)
230 Guest login ok, access restrictions apply.
ftp>

For a complete list of commands, type "?" at the first ftp> prompt.
