Fat chances

There's a big noise from the medical community that Americans are obese, dangerously so. Everybody heard it.
So the TV is still full of advertising for foods whose sole function is pleasure, and whose byproducts are that very obesity.
Most Americans spend more time with the TV than with their friends.
So is the TV your friend?
Because if it isn't your friend, aren't you kind of lonely?
And if it is your friend, why doesn't it care what happens to you?
