A huge explosion erupted in Fallujah on Thursday, sending a large fireball into the sky, witnesses said.
The blast took place in the northwest part of the city, a stronghold for guerrillas, where U.S. and Iraqi forces have been battling to gain control. The cause of the blast was unclear.
The explosion came shortly after U.S. forces said they had brought the city's northwestern Jolan district under control.
