United States President George W Bush is apparently recalling a number of top administrators from Iraq. The Washington Post quotes government officials as the source of the report. It is felt the administrators, including current head Jay Garner, have not been successful enough in Iraq. There is dissatisfaction with what has been done up to now to restore public order and vital services. Iraqis have also not been involved enough in the formation of an interim administration.
News of Mr Garner's departure comes shortly after President Bush announced that top diplomat Paul Bremer would take over the leadership of the political process in Iraq. The Washington Post goes on to report that US forces will shortly end their search for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and will probably return to the US next month.
