Egypt and Jordan the only two Arab states to have signed full peace treaties with Israel withdrew their envoys in late 2000 and said they would only return if Israel showed it was serious about making peace with the Palestinians.
Israeli diplomat Yoram Ben-Zeev, in Ottawa this week to urge Canada to put pressure on the Palestinians to stick to the roadmap peace plan, also raised the matter of the envoys.
It would be very conducive to the efforts if Egypt and Jordan sent back their ambassadors to Israel and we asked our Canadian friends to join us in delivering this message to Cairo and Amman, he told Reuters in an interview.
