Keep Dolphin-Safe Label Truly Dolphin-Safe

�The Department of Commerce has decided it may allow tuna caught by dolphin-deadly fishing methods onto American shores, yet still be labeled 'dolphin-safe.'
Defenders and I are calling on school students across the U.S. to get involved in order to stop the harming of innocent dolphins while catching tuna," said Beard. "I am committed to dedicating every free moment I have to educating students about this issue, and I hope that kids from around the country will participate in this contest and help us protect these incredible mammals."

It isn't so much their innocence as their closeness to us. The tuna are innocent, in the sense that everybody's innocent. But dolphins are like chimpanzees that way too, relatives up close, family. Eating your family is a coward's means of survival. Feeding someone meat from their relatives is even more cowardly, plus villainous. Rationalizing cannibalism is how we got into this mess; not just the cannibalizing but the rationalizing of things that are that serious and dark.
It would make perfect sense for people to start eating each other now, as far as resources and availability go. But it would also mean a severing of what we are from what brought us here that would be irrevocable.
One more in a series of irrevocable separations. A species split. It's a choice, like slavery is, like anything that isn't done blindly or in passion. And there's a growing crowd of soul-less and heartless logicians who insist it's perfectly fine to eat your grandmother - all that protein going to waste. It's Satanic reasoning.
It's time I think that we stopped arguing, stopped reasoning entirely. Reject it because it stinks, who cares about why; there will be mistakes of course, and directions missed, but anything that leads us back toward the path we were on, and away from this hellbound train, is bound to work eventually.
We keep making decisions based solely on the desire to maintain our comfort levels. That isn't going to work.
The same prionic logic that's behind so many of the insane but practical gambits the world jumps toward now will soon make it impossible for human beings to stay human.
Logic is good, human is better. Cannibalism isn't human. Eating dolphins is cannibalism.
