"I heard about the Noble Drew Ali houses one night at a crowded housing meeting at the Boys and Girls High School. One mention of the place caused an uproar. I remember somebody taking the microphone and saying, 'This is the worst we ever had.'
Noble Drew Ali is another universe from the government, one much farther away than Mars, because this one cannot be seen or imagined by someone in Washington.
Looking at the crowded courtyard Wednesday, I could see and hear George Bush standing here and calling out: 'Bring 'em on.'
But from a bench in Brownsville they can see Washington and they know what they see."
