The Peregrine Fund - Notes from the Field - Hawaii From "rediscovering" the core population of Puaiohi in 1995 to collecting eggs in 1996 and 1997, to breeding the first Puaiohi in captivity in 1998 to releasing offspring in 1999, to finally having those released birds breed in 1999. Wow! This is the first endangered Hawaiian forest bird species to be bred in captivity, then released, to then go on to breed in the wild. A most exciting accomplishment.
