San Francisco is suffering an 'epidemic' of child prostitution with up to 3,000 girls and boys working the streets on any given night, said city officials.
Some of these children are as young as 10 years old, they said.
Profile of the kids:City Supervisor Tom Ammiano said that despite San Francisco's budget problems, the city must fund services to help lure the estimated 3,000 teenagers away from working as prostitutes.As young as 10 years old; Runaways and 'throwaways'; Drug addicts; Mentally ill; or Abducted from within the United States and abroad.
'This is a crisis situation,' he said. 'This is a 'code orange' so to speak.'
