...But of these sophisms and elenchs of merchandise I skill not...
Milton, Areopagitica

Except he had found the
standing sea-rock that even this last
Temptation breaks on; quieter than death but lovelier; peace
that quiets the desire even of praising it.

Isaiah, from The holy Bible, King James version
Woe to the land shadowing with wings, which is beyond the rivers of Ethiopia.
{whenever I start thinking too much, that the Bible is just weirdly pre-fabbed Israeli propaganda, I think of Isaiah. The way some of the very people he railed and racked against would now use his fiery breath as comfort. all woven through the madness is righteous condemnation. it means both more and less than you think it does. there's this wonderful built-in security device in these kinds of religious dynamos. if you even touch it you have to come down hard one side or the other. well fuck that and fuck you. I love the words and the way they go together. but the idea of a God who demands to be pleased is nauseating. and so obviously man-made it's a huge relief to know so many base their bogus stance on an afterlife shared with such a thing. two steps up from the FBI, five steps up from the Mormons, The Great Jehovah, with his lightning bolts and his mighty sword. as though those slanty-eyed Chinamen were over there in the dark, fermenting while the true people basked in the Light. huh?
what I mean is, Isaiah has power. but then so did a Mayan priest at the top of a pyramid pointing at the eclipse he claimed to have brought down on the crowd below. the power is real. its cause, its source is another question.}
