Thus today "46 Iraqis killed".
What this says in a profoundly simple and inarguably clear way is that there is no longer a difference. In the minds and private speech of policy clerks and journalists there is, but the money for this crusade comes from the American people primarily, the emotional fuel for it, the moral permission, and in the minds of the American people it no longer matters with whom the dead were aligned. They were Iraqis, they attacked us, we killed them.}
