News Update: Hilversum, Thursday 14 August 2003 19:00 UTC: "The women, who belong to the Masaai and Samburu ethnic groups, were accompanied by light-skinned children.
More than 600 women in northern Kenya, where British soldiers have been training for 30 years, claim to have been raped. The women are demanding that the British government pay for the cost of raising the children. British military police have started an investigation into the affair.
It is the first time the women have gone public with the charges. The first reports of rapes by British soldiers surfaced 25 years ago, but the authorities ignored them."
