"...one of his students, who's been locked out of his job at Ralphs. He makes minimum wages. They started talking about how important it was that the union not allow their health care benefits to be cut. They gave up salary increases in the past in order to keep those benefits, and they just can't lose them now.
My husband said it would be nice if no one had to worry about health care, like in Europe. His student paused for a second, then said, "Yeah, but their income taxes are really high."
He makes minimum wage. He doesn't make enough money to pay income taxes. Why does he care how high income taxes are?"
